The Alpine Loop Scenic Byway is a wonderful trek any time of the year. You will see some spectacular scenery on your way from Provo Canyon to American Fork Canyon. Sundance resort, the glacial north face of Timpanogos Mountain, Springs, numerous streams, waterfalls, small lakes, a world renowned cave system and all sorts of flora and fauna are all found in the area. In addition to catching brown trout in the streams, I have been lucky enough to spot several moose, deer, and mountain goats. There are also black bears and mountain lions in the area although I have never had the pleasure (from a distance) of spotting them. There is so much to do that one could easily spend a week in the area and not explore everything. The route is approximately 25 miles long, but if you are at all adventurous the trip will be much longer. The main route is paved, but that is just the beginning for some. There are miles of dedicated hiking trails, but there are also trails shared my dirt bikes, hikers and mountain bikers in the warmer months. ATV's are generally not permitted directly along the Alpine Loop Route, but are used widely around Tibble Fork Reservoir which is a great side destination. There are many campgrounds and day use parks in the area. In the winter the gates are closed to normal traffic, but snowmobiles, cross country skiers and snowshoers can enjoy a winter wonderland with a fraction of the normal traffic. Also, areas normally inaccessible to motorized vehicles are passable on snowmobiles which leads to even greater discovery.

Destinations of note are as follows:

Timpanogos Cave National Monument

Aspen Grove

Cascade Springs

Stewart Falls

Silver Lake
